Unmanned aerial systems (UAS) technology is poised to deliver viable, heavy-duty commercial solutions. Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) will have the strength, range, stability and control to perform useful work wherever people cannot go easily or safely. On-board avionics will enable them to operate remotely and safely, even in civil airspace.
This market will be opened by aeronautical engineering, not just IT. At Neva Aerospace, we recognised from the outset that the key to developing commercial drones capable of carrying economically-viable payloads over useful distances is efficient propulsion. We identified distributed thrust from multiple electric ducted fans as the way forward.
In 2016, we made a significant leap forward in the market’s development with the introduction of the world’s first turbofans optimised for static thrust – they can power vertical and short take-off and landing as well as extended flight times and stable hovering. This will enable UAVs to work in congested spaces, deliver freight, and act as platforms for robotically controlled tools used in dangerous and distant locations. This technology has been under development and testing since 2009 and is patent protected globally.
Commercial UAVs powered with distributed thrust delivered by multiple turbofans will fill the gap between low-tech quadcopters and small fixed wing aircraft and helicopters. Our turbofan technology is rendering other multi-copter approaches redundant while they are still no more than concepts on a CGI screen.
We are now working with industry leaders to develop industry-specific solutions based on our patented Neva distributed thrust concepts and turbofans.
Our unique static thrust turbofans are also being made available to other UAS developers. We all have a keen interest in nurturing this growing market and we have no doubt that Neva technology is the key to the next stage of its exciting development.
